Rochester Institute of Technology-Kosovo Students Center

06.03.2022

In collaboration with GAD Architects, OUD+Architects were selected as the winners of an international competition for the design of the new RIT Kosovo Student Center. A distinctive aspect of the competition was its decision-making process, which entrusted the final vote to the students themselves. The project received overwhelming support, securing more than 80% of the total votes.

The proposal envisions a hybrid, multi-use student center comprising a central event hall, library and reading room, auditorium, canteen, gymnasium, collaborative workspaces, and a residential dormitory with 40 single, double, and triple rooms.

The project also incorporates several sustainable design strategies. The roof is planned to be fully equipped with photovoltaic panels, generating approximately 60% of the building’s energy demand. In addition, a geothermal heating and cooling system significantly reduces reliance on conventional electrical energy for climate control. Rainwater harvesting is also integrated into the design, with collected water reused for irrigating green areas on and around the building.
